A Community of Practice through Monthly Membership

Learning, Practice, Action | Bridging, Building, Belonging

"You’re always practicing something. So you’re either practicing upholding the world as it is, or you’re practicing shifting into the world as you want it to be." -adrienne maree brown

We are living in a time of transformation, when radically new possibilities are being born. As we move from crisis and despair toward a world of healing and repair, what are the individual and collective practices we can engage in to create a culture of love and liberation in our lives, movements and communities?

Rooted in Love is a community of learning, practice and action to create a world where we all belong and thrive. Members receive curated resources each month designed to support your ongoing learning and practice life; wisdom and guidance from some of the leading elders, visionaries, activists & artists of our time; access to seasonal in-person & virtual community gatherings; the option to join a small group for going deeper; and a steady stream of creative inspiration to keep you resilient and thriving. You can participate at the depth and frequency that works for you.

As we practice in our lives and communities, we embody the more healed and beautiful world our hearts know is possible.

We especially welcome & support the participation of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Youth, Elders and folks with disabilities.

A FRAMEWORK FOR BUILDING BELOVED COMMUNITY

Thrive’s community of practice is grounded in our Framework for Building Beloved Community, a holistic model for creating change at the Personal, Community and Systemic levels through an interconnected process of Bridging, Building and Belonging. We focus on key change areas that include Healing & Care, Reckoning & Repair, Bridging & Weaving, Changing the Narrative, Transforming Justice & Power, Growing the Next Economy, Creating a Culture of Joy & Meaning, Caring for the Earth, and Honoring the Sacred.

Our learning, practice, and action weaves together through a process of:

  • Bridging - the work that it takes to heal and repair, overcoming separation and division, and the forming of relationships and connections that are vital for changing our world together.

  • Building - the work that it takes to reimagine and create new stories, to undo our systems of oppression, and to build the new structures of a just and regenerative society.

  • Belonging - the work that it takes to create the culture and practices of interconnectedness, to cultivate wholeness in ourselves and connection with the sacred, the earth, and a world of joy, beauty and meaning.

MEMBERSHIP PRICING

Through a monthly or annual contribution, you receive access to all of the offerings named above. We use a sliding scale model intended to honor a wide range of financial circumstances and the historical disparities that continue to exist in our lives and culture. For those who have been more advantaged and have greater access to financial means, contributing at the higher end of the sliding scale is one meaningful way to support repair and redistribution, along with the healing and thriving of us all.

Your contribution helps us compensate our small part-time team and allow us to financially support our guest speakers, practitioners and artists who do such valuable work in the world. We appreciate you contributing as fully as you are able to so that we can continue to help build a world where we all belong and thrive.

Sliding Scale Options

Option 1 - Thriver: $22/month or $244/year

Option 2 - Widening the Circle: $42/month or $488/year

FAQs

What do you mean by Beloved Community?

We honor Beloved Community as a purpose that connects us all, one that is rooted in the legacy of Dr. King and the civil rights movement, along with the many efforts working to create an inclusive, interrelated society based on love and justice.

We honor Beloved Community as a practice that includes the healing and transformation work we do inside ourselves & in community using the power of love, vulnerability, care and connection.

Here is a quote by Rev. Shirley Strong that we also take guidance & inspiration from:

"I understand Beloved Community to mean an inclusive, interrelated society based on love, justice, compassion, responsibility, shared power and a respect for all people, places, and things—a society that radically transforms individuals and restructures institutions. King did not believe that the realization of the Beloved Community would one day just automatically come to pass. Rather he saw it as an ideal that first must be envisioned, and then consciously and intentionally worked toward. It was King’s hope that in every succeeding generation, visionary people will commit their lives and resources to the achievement of such a community."

The seasonal gatherings are in-person AND virtual?

For folks in Oakland and the Bay Area where Thrive is based, we will be gathering in-person for our seasonal Thrive Sunday events. For folks in other locations, these gatherings will be offered in a hybrid format so you can participate virtually.

Can I sign up anytime of the month?

Yes, you can sign up anytime of the month and your membership will begin.

How do the small practice groups work?

We support participants that are looking to connect with others in forming small groups of 3 - 4 to build community and deepen in practice together. Participation in these groups is optional and not required. Many meet virtually and some gather in-person when that is possible. These small groups decide together their regular meeting time and date, with meeting once or twice a month for 90 minutes being the recommended for an optimal experience. We provide agenda templates & practice guides each month that can be adapted.

How much time will this involve?

We recommend you plan on committing 1 - 2 hours a week on average to engage in this community of practice. The more time and energy you invest, the more growth and positive impact you will experience. We recognize that most of us have very full and busy lives, so we design our resources and offerings in a way that allows you to choose the depth and frequency of engagement that works for you.

What if I participated in a previous season of the Beloved Community Journey?

For participants in one of Thrive’s previous seasons of the Beloved Community Journey, the Rooted in Love Community of Practice is an opportunity to continue growing and deepening your practice. The curriculum and resources for Rooted in Love are grounded in the same Framework for Building Beloved Community. This offering is less intensive than the Beloved Community Journey, though still full of opportunities to expand your learning and practice. While some of the content and resources are updated versions of what we’ve shared previously, much of it is fresh, new and emerging.

How do I cancel my membership if I no longer want to participate?

You you can change or cancel your membership at any time. We ask that you let us know at least 5 days before your next payment is scheduled to be processed.
